An Expectation of Holiness

1 Peter 1:15-17

1 Peter 1:15-17

15 But as He which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:”

Live Holy! It’s not an inactive but active verb that as the children of God and the redeemed of The Lord, must be a mantra inscribed upon our hearts. It is an act of mindfulness and awareness that requires that we make a conscious effort To Do daily! It is our human nature to sin, but The Holy Ghost living inside of us empowers us with the ability to overcome sin and do what is right in the sight of The Lord. The Holy Spirit, coupled with a heart to purposely will oneself to pray, before we act, is a combination more powerful than Satan’s lure!

Peter reminds us in the scripture above that to say we Love God, yet are not obedient to His Word, that we should be fearful of our time here on earth.
How seriously do we take this New Testament guidance?

Have you bore false witness in order to seek a competitive advantage?

Did you commit adultery or lust after someone other than your spouse?

Did you covet a person or worldly tradition or familial expectation above God’s Word and Directions?

Did you take what was not yours?

Did you honor your earthly parents above God Almighty their creator?

Did you worship and adhere to man’s traditions, cultural expectations or idols above Our Lord and Savior and God your Father?

Did you seek peace or were you a troublemaker?

Did you reject a fellow Christian judging them in order to determine if they are worthy to be in your presence or family?

Do you share God’s Word but in your personal life you are disobedient to it?

Do you constantly sin and then run to God for forgiveness AFTER you did what your flesh led you to do?

Living a life of Holiness requires:

a) A true desire to please God both in public and private. Remember, there is no privacy with God.
b) Feeding your Spirit daily with God’s Word and praying for the Word to take root and flourish, not die because of a lack of sincerity and commitment to it.
c) Surrounding yourself with TRUE Believers. A true follower of The Word would NEVER order or encourage you to sin against God, your spouse or man!

d) Humbling yourself to Godly correction. When we start down the road of sin, when fellow disciples use The Word of God to advise you to stop sinning, don’t ignore their counsel even if it is contrary to the advice of your family and friends, because if what you do or are ordered or encouraged to do doesn’t line up with The Word, they are being led of the devil to get you to sin! Don’t neglect that small voice or shared scripture. The deliverer of that Word might be an angel or messenger of The Lord meant to help you to Live Holy.
Remember, there are consequences for our sins. We as Christians will answer for our sins. I imagine the sins we commit against our brethren will be of particular concern to God for we know, heard and accepted The Truth. We cannot cherry-pick through The Gospels deciding like spoiled children what we will and won’t adhere to!!! Remember we told God, not my will but Your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven!

As we reflect on Christ’s sacrifice for us this Holy Week, let us commit to a life of Holiness. Let us recommit to living by God’s Word, not man’s nor family’s or tribal or cultural traditions for they don’t always align with God and that is typically 95% of the time. That’s why living Holy is hard because it’s like swimming upstream against a powerful current always looking to pull you under water. And that current is Satan and the witting and unwitting helpers he has to do his bidding.
Do not approach the Holy Altar for communion with God if you have aught or have sinned against your brother or sister or spouse. For to partake in the Holy Communion is to eat and drink damnation unto your soul. Remember God knows all that you have done — He has seen it, heard it and knows your heart! He is neither mocked nor fooled.

It is so much simpler to determine both in will and ways to strive to live Holy and make amends for your wrongs by seeking forgiveness and reconciliation.

As we draw near to The Crucifixion and Jesus’ Glorious resurrection, let that be your first step towards walking a path of Holiness!

Father God we come before Thee covered by The Blood 🩸 of Jesus. It is His Holy Blood that masks the stench of our sins allowing us to call on You! Holy Father strengthen us through daily communion and purposeful commitment to Your Will and Your Ways, which are Holy so that we model more of You and in such our flesh dies daily. Give us the courage of Jesus who faced a tortuous death on The Cross for our sakes so that we might be reconciled back unto You Father, to face those we have harmed and sinned against by word and/or deed in defiance of Your Word and teachings. Let us seek both forgiveness and reconciliation as is required by The Word before You should call us back home. In Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name we pray, Amen 🙏🏽 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
