The Importance of Being In Covenant With God
There is no greater bond in life than being in Covenant with God. It is our connection to Him and His to us. We receive it freely upon our salvation and reconciliation unto The Father. For those that marry they also enter a marriage Covenant with God making the union between God, the bridegroom and the bride. We also enter into Covenant with God to be guardians over His children that He entrusts into our care to raise them up in full knowledge of The Lord and to show them The Way as we are to both live AND model Christ-like behavior everyday.
A Covenant relationship is one where we enter into a commitment or agreement with another or others. In The Bible when God enters into Covenant with us His promises to us are clear.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
Deuteronomy 7:9
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8
We also adopt and commit to this same pledge towards Him to hold fast to His Word, to never abandon our faith, do trust God and obey His Word and precepts. To honor and give Him honor and praise as He blesses and empowers us, even when He corrects us. All that God does for us or allows to happen is for our good as He burns off the sin that corrupts the soul and refines us for His purpose. You see, God cannot use us when we walk fully in sin. When we choose to do evil towards one another, mistreat or abuse one another, harbor ill-will, lie, cheat, steal, covet, rob, fornicate or commit adultery for all is sin and God rebukes sin and the workers of sin. Sin breaks The Covenant relationship with God in all areas of our lives. It is our sins that Christ died for as the ultimate blood sacrifice and to lay a path of reconciliation for us back into God’s Love! For us so to continue sinning, after repentance, makes a mockery of that selfless act, breaks Covenant and sets us back on a path to damnation. They crucify Christ again. We cannot claim ignorance to God’s Word, especially those who profess and proclaim it but in their lives parse out what Scripture of The Word they choose to adhere to. Know this…
“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him”
1 John 2: 3-4
“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses.”
Hebrews 10:26-28
“But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die. “Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear now, O house of Israel: Is my way not just? Is it not your ways that are not just? When a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it; for the injustice that he has done he shall die.”
Ezekiel 18:24-26
A Covenant with God is the most important bond you will ever have. As I wrote earlier it extends into every aspect of our lives, our marriages, our relationships with our children and how we live.
God is faithful to us. God protects us. God blesses us. God wants us to live a prosperous (this is not monetized) life. God is faithful to us. God corrects us for our good. Most of all, God Loves us. Who would give all this up for selfish gain? For momentary pleasure? To practice idolatry? To disobey God’s Word to suit our own desires? To please others, instead of doing what is right in the sight of The Lord?
My friends…proceed with caution. Evaluate your every action, words and deeds. Stop yourselves before you break Covenant with Our Father.
You need Him everyday. Stay focused. Keep your eyes on the prize of God’s heavenly calling. Amen 🙏🏽 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Father God, impart into us the importance of being in relationship/fellowship/covenant with You! Let us not treat it like a passing fad or take it or our salvation for granted. Let us cherish You and those You give us to Love—our spouses, our children, our parents, our siblings and other family and friends in that order. Let us not be disobedient to Your Word. Let us not break or disrespect our Covenants we enter into with You — our adoption into the family of Christ, our marriages, our roles as parents, our roles as church leaders. Correct us when we step afoul and send fellow Christians who live The Word to help us not sin against You, our spouse, children or others in Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name we pray, Amen 🙏🏽 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
